Solo Performance and Presentation Lab

This workshop takes students through the process of creating a storytelling piece.  These can be autobiographical or fictional stories; character monologues; investigative journalistic pieces; keynotes; motivational speeches; pitches; spoken word; or text combined with dance, song, etc. As such, students receive solid training in both writing and performance that they can apply to the art world and/or the business world (and anything in between). Specific topics include plot, organic story structure, character creation, use of breath/body/voice, and ways to establish a relationship with an audience.  This workshop is great for all kinds of artists who wish to create work for themselves. It's also wonderful for people who use (or would like to use) public presentations as part of their professional lives--but wish to do so in the most dynamic, skillful way possible. In a nurturing, structured environment, students create a five-minute piece that they present for an invited audience in November.  Students may also write an ouline for a full-length one-person show  (optional).

Other Details of Class:

  • Apply teachings to the stage, the business world, or both;
  • Learn skillful use of story PLUS body and voice usage;
  • 2.5 hour sessions -- plus the public performance (essentially, a 7th class!);
  • One one-on-one phone session with instructor (approximately 45 minutes);
  • Assistance with short piece AND one-person show idea;
  • One public presentation where you can try out your new skills in front of friends and family;
  • Amazing discount on one--on-one coaching (1/2 price!);
  • Classes limited to 12 students to optimize personal attention.

I take students on a first-come, first-served basis.  Classes do sell out so best to register early. Check out the testimonials of others who've taken this course!  Questions? Give a call: (202) 431-6448.
